Janet S.
Doty
October 7, 1960 – December 15, 2025
Janet Doty was the kind of woman whose love showed up in a hundred quiet ways—and whose laughter could fill a room even on the hardest days. She was generosity in motion, compassion without conditions, and a playful spirit that never let life get too heavy for long.
Even in her final days, Janet stayed Janet. She joked with the nurses right up to the moment she could no longer speak, and when words weren't available, her humor still was—finding ways to tease her nephews with perfectly-timed, nonverbal gags that said, "I'm still here, and I'm still me." That was her gift: making people feel seen, cared for, and somehow lighter just by being around her.
Janet was a deeply loving mother to her two sons, Brian (Angela) Doty (45) and Michel Doty (43)—steady, encouraging, and proud in a way that never needed to be loud to be felt. She was also a devoted grandmother to Justin Doty (9), Lucy Doty (7), and Lily Doty (5), pouring warmth and joy into their lives in the way only a grandmother can: with patience, gentleness, and a little sparkle of mischief.
She leaves behind her loving family, including her sisters Carole (Robert), Karen (Joseph), Diane, Joann (Anthony, dcd.), and Leslie (David, dcd.). She also leaves behind her father, Oscar Nunez (89). And beyond names and titles, she leaves a wide circle of nieces and nephews—many of whom didn't hesitate to call her their favorite aunt, because with Janet, love was never in short supply and laughter always found a way.
Janet's warmth, guidance, and caring heart touched more lives than she probably ever realized. She made people feel safe. She made people feel welcome. She made people laugh—sometimes when they didn't think they could.
She will be missed deeply, remembered lovingly, and carried forward in the stories, smiles, and everyday moments she helped shape.
Janet's life will be celebrated at the Dearborn location of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 22546 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48124, on Saturday, December 20th. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM, until the time of the service at 4:00 PM. A Celebration of Janet's Life is also planned for the Spring, and details will be shared as they are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janet's honor may be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Blood Cancer United.
