Janet was born in New York City at the New York Naval Hospital on June 2, 1944, as her father served in the Navy during World War II. When her father left the service, the family moved to Moosup, Connecticut for a few years and lived with her grandparents on their farm. During that time, Janet became a big sister when her brother Bob arrived in July of 1945. In the 50's, Janet's family moved to Jamesburg, New Jersey, and that is where Janet spent the majority of her childhood. She graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1962. Janet started college courses but quickly left school so she could work full time. In July 1963, Janet experienced a life-changing moment. She was a bridesmaid in her friend's wedding, and that friend had a cousin named George (you see where this is going, right?!). George Sohm was a groomsman in that wedding, as the bride was his cousin. Janet and George were paired up to walk together. Little did they know at that moment that it wouldn't be their only trip down the aisle together! Janet and George began dating and were married August 5, 1967 in Jamesburg, New Jersey. They immediately moved to Dearborn, MI for George's new job with Ford Motor Company. Their son Frederick (Rick) was born in 1969, and daughter Heather in 1971. Janet was a homemaker, busy raising her children and keeping the home in tip-top shape. She was active at the kids' school, Sacred Heart Elementary, as well as at Sacred Heart Church. Janet also enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and downhill skiing with the family. She was an avid reader and produced many counted cross stitch works of art. Janet was never much of a sports fan, but you'd never know it. Not only did she attend all the games, for every sport, that her children played, but she was their biggest (and loudest) cheerleader. As her children grew and moved on to their adult lives, Janet worked part time at Hudson's in the Bridal Registry Department. Janet and George also began their travel adventures around this time. They made the most of their time together, visiting places such as: China, Africa, Italy, France, Russia, Germany, Panama, Japan, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, England, Scotland, Whales, Ireland, Ukraine, Columbia, Mexico, Belize, Spain, Monaco, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, and many Caribbean Islands. Janet also visited all 50 US states! Janet took utmost joy is being a Grandmother. She was blessed with a granddaughter, Angelina, and three Grandsons: Christian, Nicholas, and Evan. Janet was a lover of hot tea and anything chocolate! Please indulge in one, or both, of those things today and think of Janet.
