Jay Ross
Hevener, Jr.
March 24, 1944 – April 21, 2023
Jay Ross Hevener, Jr. passed away on April 21, 2023 at the age of 79 in Dearborn, MI. He was born on March 24, 1944 in Philadelphia. Beloved husband of Sandy for 55 wonderful years. Loving father of Amanda (Andrew) Schrauben. Proud Papa of Henry and Roger. Dear brother of Debbie (Jerry) Iaccorino and brother-in-Law of Bob Schrey. Jay is also survived by several nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Jay Sr. and Catherine (Deck) Hevener, and his brothers, James and Keith Hevener.
Jay met Sandy while participating in their churchs' youth groups. They were married on June 24, 1967 in Philadelphia. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1964 where he proudly served until 1969 at Willow Grove Naval Air Station. Jay served many years as a church business administrator. He began his career in Philadelphia and was transferred to First Presbyterian Church in Dearborn and he and his family moved to Dearborn that year. Jay, Sandy, and Amanda loved to travel the country to attend the annual Church Business Administrator Association Conventions. Their travels spanned from Washington State to North Carolina and most places in between.
Jay was also an avid car lover, working at Mecum Auto Auction. He was proud of his 1991 Ford Mustang and could often be found washing and waxing his cars in his driveway; you would never find a spec of dirt on Jay's vehicles.
A short service with Navy Honors and burial will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 1pm.
A celebration of life will be held at a day and time to be announced in the summer.
