Obituary

Jeanne Dolores Clabeaux Bowen, age 97, most recently of Twinsburg, Ohio, formerly of Birmingham and Dearborn Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025. Despite health challenges in her later years, Jeanne remained positive and thankful for her family and the life she enjoyed.

Jeanne was born on October 23, 1927, the first of three children of Ellsworth and Carmelita (Skahen) Clabeaux in Buffalo, New York. Beloved wife of the late Robert Emmett Bowen. Jeanne is survived by her five children: Donna (Don) Brown, Holly (Brad) Muhl, Rob (Kristin) Bowen, Mary (John) Chapman, and John (Christine) Bowen. Jeanne was blessed with eight grandchildren: Megan Brown Mazzucca (Dan), Maura Brown Holland (Tim), Branden Muhl, Blaine Muhl Jakubov (Jordan), Britain Muhl, Robert Bowen, Brianne Bowen, and William Bowen along with five great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Her passing is also mourned by two brothers: James Clabeaux of Cheektowaga, NY, and Frank Clabeaux of Somersworth, NH, along with many nieces and nephews who considered Aunt Jeanne their friend.

Her early years were spent in towns in eastern New York state and Ohio with her father's work with Great Lakes Dredge and Dock. These seasonal moves contributed to her wanderlust in the years after her beloved Bob was gone and her children were raised. A graduate of East High School in Buffalo, Jeanne chose working at American Telephone and Telegraph instead of heading to secretarial school with her friends.  This fortuitous choice led to an introduction to Bob Bowen, a returning WWII veteran passing through Buffalo to visit family on his way home to Schenectady, N.Y. During 30 years of marriage, Jeanne oversaw the family transfer with Ford Motor Company from Buffalo to Dearborn, Michigan. Once all her children were school age, she attended Henry Ford College in Dearborn, receiving an Associate of Arts Degree where she came to love art history.  In her world travels she was able to enhance her love of art by visits to art museums in many European and Asian cities.

Jeanne took great joy and pride in her family. While her children were dispersed across the country, she visited regularly and kept in close contact with all and knew what each member of her extended family was up to and took great pride in each one's accomplishments.

Born with a beautiful singing voice, Jeanne left annual "Happy Birthday" messages on her children's voice mail, smiled at every baby in a grocery line, loved a good buffet, knew the names of all of the wildflowers in Western NY, had a deep devotion to St. Anthony  and to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, loved all kinds of music (Pink Floyd being a favorite in later years), and until she was 85, drove regularly to Chicago, Buffalo, Cleveland, and New Hampshire to visit family.  Flights to Kansas City, Tampa, Tokyo, Dallas, and Austin enabled Jeanne to spend quality time with her working offspring.

Jeanne enjoyed many activities. She and her husband enjoyed boating/sailing as a member of the Detroit Yacht Club for more than 60 years. She volunteered extensively, with years of service as a Minister of the Eucharist in the Archdiocese of Detroit's Apostleship of the Sea program serving the Port of Detroit. She also volunteered for many years at the Veterans Hospital in Allen Park, and in a program for first-time parents at Beaumont Hospital.

In her final years she was blessed with frequent visits from her devoted youngest grandson William, the loving care and friendship of Brianna Guzik, her personal hair stylist, manicurist and lovely young friend, and the staff at Kensington at Anna Maria.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at Dearborn Episcopal Church, 120 N Military St., Dearborn, MI. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 am. Family and friends may visit the church beginning at 9:00 am. Burial will take place at Mount Kelly Cemetery, 23250 Cherry Hill St., Dearborn, MI.
