Obituary

Jeffrey K. Baxter passed away on January 21, 2025 at the age of 46. Beloved son of Marion (nee Petre) Baxter and the late Keith Baxter. Loving father of Tori and Josh Baxter. Cherished brother of Lynne Nowicki (Joe Vick). Dearest uncle of Paige Nowicki. Jeff is loved by all of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Jeff had a lifelong love of music playing in the HS Marching band, in a band, Buddhism, with his friends throughout high school, and extended his musical career to share his talents with the church. He played alto saxophone, and then bass drum and percussion throughout high school, played lead and acoustic guitar whenever the opportunity presented itself and sang in the choir with Grace Episcopal Church. He shared his musical talent with many throughout the community playing in pick up bands whenever he could, and playing guitar at his church and at Kinghaven whenever the opportunity arose.

Jeff also loved his sports teams: the Michigan State Spartans, the Detroit Lions, the Red Wings, and, most especially, the Detroit Tigers. He loved watching them all on tv whenever possible, but never missed the Tigers!

Jeff's greatest achievement in life was raising his two children, Tori and Josh. He was a dedicated and loving father and he was so proud of all they accomplished. Jeff loved the element of surprise, and was great at keeping a secret. Throughout their childhood, each weekend he would take Tori and Josh on a fun, secret adventure. Making memories with his kids was very important to him. He always made sure he attended their events at school, and stayed current on their academic successes. Whenever possible, he celebrated their many achievements with them. It was difficult for him when they went away to college, but he never let that show. He enjoyed their company when they returned, and listened intently to all of their stories. Jeff was also a dedicated uncle, loving his niece Paige as if she was his own. He was her primary caregiver for a short time and enjoyed hearing about all of her accomplishments, clearly declaring "so proud!" even when speech became a struggle for him.

Those who knew Jeff will remember him for his caring and compassionate nature, his infectious smile and his unwavering commitment to his children, family and the Detroit Tigers. He was uniquely Jeff, and he has left a lasting impact on the lives of those lucky enough to know him.
