Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" Jagod of Dearborn, MI passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, November 11 th .  Beloved husband of the late Marian Jagod for over 57 years.  Father of Katie (Mike DeGain), Karrie (Joseph Zambo), Mike, and Scott (Jessica). Proud grandfather (Papa) of 10:  Daniel, Benjamin, Abigail, Matthew, Dominic, Sage, Sofia, Julien, Macie and Carson. Jerry is also survived by 6 brothers and sisters: Bob (late Cathy), Gary (Karen), Larry (Diane), Rosemary (William), Beverly (Steve), and Debbie (Larry), as well as being pre-deceased by 3 brothers – Don (Betty), Tom (Diane), Eddie, as well as Bill (Joan) who was like a brother.   For anyone unfamiliar with the story of Jerry and his sibling's reconnection, it is one of the coolest stories ever…ask one of them about it, you won't be sorry.

A veteran of the US Air Force (3 years), Dearborn Fire Department (3 years), and Dearborn Police Department (32 years!); Corporal Jerome R Jagod lived a full life and one of great service and love to his family, his community, and his country.

Jerry had many adventures in life, far too many to list them all, but to name a few…

Born on a fire engine.  Separated from his siblings at a young age. Joined the National Guard before age 18.  Air Force air medic.  Pictured in Life Magazine.  Worked on Michigan's first heart/lung machine.  Met Marian on a blind date.  Called away to the Cuban Missile crisis during a Halloween party.  Rookie cop during the Detroit riots of the late 1960's.  Delivered 2 babies in the field as a policeman (one mother named their son Jerome).  Winner of numerous commendations. Re-united with his family as an adult. Proud & loving Father and husband.  Dog lover.  Man of great character.   Dad.

In many ways, Jerry was a walking contrast:

Fierce yet compassionate.  Serious yet jovial.  Private but whimsical.

His many police commendations speak to his dual nature:

He found lost dogs, rescued families from fires, chased down suspects, and plain ol' kicked butt when he needed to.

Jerry was firstly compassionate and kind to those in need, but equally fierce when dealing with those who threatened his family or community.  His family always felt safe because of his strength when he was around, but always loved as well because of the gentle side he so often displayed.

We are all better having known you, Papa.  Thank you for your service.   You will be missed.  Interment will occur Friday 11:00 a.m. at

Forest Lawn Cemetery.  UPDATE: Funeral service and visitation schedule has been postponed indefinitely.  Please check back in the upcoming days and weeks for

further information.
