Jerome Walter Wegienka, 92, of Plymouth, MI

Jerome (Jerry) Wegienka, age 92, of Plymouth, MI, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025.

Jerry was born on July 14, 1932, in Detroit, MI and graduated from Romulus High School in 1951. After working as an apprentice machinist, he joined the US Army in late 1952, serving in the 34th Infantry Regiment, participating in the Korean Conflict throughout 1953. He left the army as a Sergeant in 1954 and completed studies to become a skilled tool and die maker.  He worked for a number of automotive suppliers in this capacity and completed his career in the early 2000's doing business development for an injection molding supplier.

On September 14, 1957, Jerry married Rosemary Alexandrowski in Wyandotte, MI, they settled in Taylor, MI and built the home where they lived for the next 67 years raising 4 children. He was a grandfather of 10, and a great-grandfather of 6.

They purchased their first travel trailer in the late-1960s which allowed annual family vacations to many different places in the USA, and weekend get-aways with other friends and families who camped. They enjoyed this lifestyle for more than 40 years. Later in life he took up golf which allowed him to spend time with friends, sons-in-law, and grandchildren on the links. Jerry was also the consummate "Mr. Fixit" able to repair pretty much anything automotive or home related. He was generous with these skills, helping any family or friend who asked. He loved working in his vegetable garden, especially the 1,000 ears of sweet corn he raised each year that were timed to mature throughout the late summer. Friends and family looked forward to receiving their bag of a dozen, husked and ready to cook ear of corn.

Jerry was a cradle Catholic who loved the Lord and took his faith seriously. He was a parishioner at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor for most of his life. At various times he sang in the choir, ushered and served on some of the many committees that make up a thriving Catholic Parish. He lived his life according to Jesus' two great commands, Love the Lord your God with your whole heart, mind, and soul, and Love your neighbor as yourself. It brought him great joy to see his children embrace and live the Catholic faith following his example.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary, children Alan (Angie) Wegienka, Linda (Robert) Theisen, Michael (Heidi) Wegienka, and Judy (Roy) Asher, grandchildren Jessica (Matthew) Davis, Kathleen (Brandon) Szachta, Daniel Theisen, Kevin (Helen) Wegienka, Rev. Ryan Asher, Sister Solana (Monica) Wegienka T.O.R., Maria Wegienka, Matthew Asher, Maxwell Wegienka, and James (Faith) Wegienka, great-grandchildren Kennedy, Poppy, Henry, Sean, Madeleine, and Cooper, brother Daniel (Marilyn) Wegienka, sister Mary Ann (Roy) Rhode. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Wegienka, and his mother, Janet (Zbikowski) Wegienka.
