Jerry "Ziggy" Sienkiewicz

Jerry “Ziggy” Sienkiewicz, 81, passed away on August 13, 2026, after a brave battle with cancer.

Jerry was born in 1944 in Dearborn, Michigan. He attended the University of Detroit School of Architecture, graduating with honors on a full scholarship.

His professional career began in 1971 with an internship, formerly known as Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, a major American architectural, engineering, and planning firm that later became Smith Group. He spent the next 52 years with the company, achieving the position of Principal/Partner and contributing to major projects around the world i.e., United States, Europe, South America and Asia.

Jerry was the lead designer of the scheme selected by the CIA in Washington DC and played an important role in developing the design team into what it is today. Other notable projects included the BASF Biomedical Research Center, the University of Michigan North Campus Research Center, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, General Motors Consolidation in Warren, Michigan, University of North Carolina, Greensboro, NC and Renault Motors in Brazil, to name just a few.

Jerry was an avid golfer and a devoted Detroit Tigers fan. To many of his friends, he was affectionately known as “Ziggy.” He looked forward to spending Thursday evenings after work with his friends at Boodles Restaurant, as well as attending golf outings in Michigan during the summer and Florida during the winter with his Boodles friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Morawa; his father John Sienkiewicz; and his stepfather, Pete Morawa. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Anne; his daughter, Jenna Bauer; his grandchildren, Jack Bauer and Kai Bauer; his brother, Ted Sienkiewicz (wife Pam); and his sister-in-law, Jackie Coburn Rosenblum (husband Bernie) and many friends of the family. Jerry will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of family and friends, and the countless stories he leaves behind. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan or the Humane Society of Michigan. Private funeral arrangements are being held by the Dearborn location of Howe-Peterson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
