Jim
Sarb
March 21, 1943 – February 25, 2024
Jim Sarb passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Karen for 55 years. Dear father of Kathleen Bastine and Sarah (Kate Black) Sarb-Black. Proud grandfather of Michael and Maria. Caring brother of Karen (Dale) Lockhart, Paula (Doug) Hamilton-Stokes, Maryellen (David) Sarnacki, and Dan (Sheila) Sarb. Brother-in-law of Connie Bayma.
Jim and Karen began dating in 1960 after meeting during high school. Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the Air National Guard and began working at the Dearborn Police Department, from which he retired after 32 years of service, 17 years as a Detective Sergeant. Jim and Karen married in 1968 and continued their family in Dearborn. He was a great provider and protector for "his girls". Jim coached C.Y.O. softball for Divine Child for 20 years and was very active in his daughters and grandchildrens' sporting events and recitals and rarely missed an event. He found joy in browsing garage sales and collecting antiques, particularly trains, and loved to learn and read about history. You could often find him and his family watching and attending Red Wings, Lions, and University of Michigan games; he held season tickets for the Wings for many years. And when you approached the Sarb residence on Halloween, you could be certain to find Jim dressed up and handing out the candy.
Following retirement, Jim and Karen traveled often to St. Pete's Beach, Florida and Port Sanilac, Michigan where they had their own pieces of paradise away from home. He enjoyed talking with fellow vets at the American Legion Carl Stitt Post in Dearborn Heights and never missed his weekly Leon's breakfast with his fellow DPD retirees.
He was a devout Catholic and an active member of Divine Child and the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Visitation at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2-8pm. A rosary will take place at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass at Divine Child Catholic Church on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 10am. Gathering at the church begins at 9:30am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
Donations in Jim's memory are appreciated to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) ( https://themmrf.org/)
