Joan Marian Koss, died Friday afternoon (May 15, 2015) after a nearly 8-year battle with lung and brain cancer. She was born on June 22, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to Steven & Joan Bator, and resided in Dearborn her entire life. She married James Robert Koss on May 12th, 1978 at St. Cunegunda Catholic Church, in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by their children Joseph Steven Koss and Jessica Faye Koss. Joseph and his wife Theresa, have three children Lucy Marian (5), Leo Aquinas (3), and Josephine Anne (11mos.) all of whom Joan loved, "up to the sky." She is also survived by her siblings Joseph, Stanley, Steven, James, and Sue Bator. Joan attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduated from Dearborn High School in 1972, and worked at Miller's Bar in Dearborn, where she met Jim. She then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for almost 30 years. Joan was a huge supporter of her kids activities, spending many cold hours in skating rinks for figure skating and hockey games. For many years Joan and Jim would travel to Drummond Island with the family to spend summers fishing, laughing, and enjoying "UP north," often commuting back and forth to work. Her family and friends were her main focus, and she was always the first to lend a helping hand in a time of need. After their kids graduated from High School, Joan and Jim followed their adventurous hearts and traveled as much as they could. They went to California, Florida, and their favorite destination: Hawai'i. But as much as they enjoyed exotic locations, they were just as happy - if not happier because of the company, spending time with their dear friends the Owens' in South Haven. When they weren't traveling, Joan and Jim were often found in their yard doing yard work and gardening. After Jim's death in 2010 she kept battling on, while at times weighed down by the loss, but never let her illness or loneliness hold her back. She continued to travel, visiting Florida, California with Jessie, South Haven, and even Alaska to visit Joe, Theresa, and Lucy. She lived a full life full of joy, love, happiness, and was truly dedicated to her faith, family, and friends. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11:30 am at Divine Child Church, 1055 N. Silvery Lane, Dearborn.
