Obituary

Joe Ann Green left this world, headed for a better place on Monday, January 18, 2021.  Joe Ann was predeceased by her amazing son Phillip Lynn Green.  She is survived by her children Richard Green (Cheryl), Beverly Monahan, Samuel Joseph Green (Khrista).  Her pride and joy grandchildren, Scott Leamy (Kayla), Steven Leamy (Tracy), Matthew Green and Jeffrey Green.  She doted on her great grandchildren Amber Ignatowski (Brian), William Leamy, Christopher Leamy, Allison Leamy and Kelsey Leamy.

Joe Ann was born in Spottsville, Kentucky, May 24, 1933, to Edward and Cornelia Kerney.  Joe Ann says the doctor was drunk and misspelled her name on the birth certificate as he thought she was a boy.  Joe Ann, being raised on a farm, had good work ethic, high moral standards and faith in God.  She worked at a sewing factory in Henderson, Kentucky where she was paid by the piece.  The girls she worked with asked her to slow down because "we need to pace ourselves and you are going too fast".  After several geographic relocations she ended up living in Taylor, Michigan working at General Motors Fisher Body Fleetwood where she retired.  Very hard work as you can imagine.  Among many of her talents, she taught herself to play the accordion, piano and organ which complimented every church service.  Her yard was beautifully landscaped which she designed and created with vegetable gardens at times.  Joe Ann was extremely technical and there wasn't anything she could not do, from changing brakes on the car to rewiring her entire house and repairing her chimney.  She was an excellent seamstress, crochet and cross stitch was an obsession at times.  She made intricate doilies, table cloths, snowflakes, Christmas tree angel and bell ornaments, bedspreads and of course afghans.  Joe Ann also loved woodworking.  She would find discarded wooden pallets and make tables, zoo and barnyard animal figures as well as picture frames. Of course she used her router, drill press, band saw, coping saw, oscillating and orbiting sanders and whatever other tools she had in her garage.  Once the items were created, she painted them and brought them to life.  She liked water and acrylic paints but did do some oils.  Her stubborn Irish helped accomplish pretty much anything she set her mind to.  She always said "if someone else can do it I can too".  Another saying was "where there is a will, there is a woman".  She was a dedicated mother and tried to raise her children with her same qualities and morals.  She used what she had available to her to include placing her oldest great grandson, as a baby, in a small cardboard box to help him sit up by himself.

Joe Ann left her family and those she touched with some wonderful memories.  She lived her last five years in Toledo, Ohio where everyone who met her just fell in love with her.  The family has no memory of Mom dancing but in the last five years every time she heard music she began dancing.  If you were standing close, she would grab your hands and expect you to dance with her.  The family would be remiss if we didn't include the names of some of her precious caregivers, Lisa Stills, Camena Mitchell, Qwida Hubbard, Samantha Nagy and Sparkle (Mom's amazing nurse) who all treated Joe Ann with the greatest of respect and as if she were their mother.

A celebration of Joe Ann's life is being planned for summer.
