MARKELL, Joe Husband of the late Susan, passed away May 15 after a brief illness. He was born near New Castle, PA on April 2, 1919, son of the late Caroline and Sam. He will be missed by his daughters Susan (Stephen) Skolnik, of Highland, MI and Patricia (Thomas) Armstrong, of Spartanburg, SC; and sister, Anna of New Castle, PA. Also his loving grandchildren: Shayne (Wendi) Skolnik, Sarah (Rob) Scranton, Lauren (Philip) Garber and Susan Ellen (Jake) Cihal; and great-grandchildren: Callie, Jacob, Nathan, Andrew Joseph, Elena, Julia, Harper and Jillian. A professional musician since the age of 17, he loved music of the big band era. He influenced the lives of many children during his career as a music and math teacher, for a short time at Brighton and Clarenceville High Schools and then for 30 years in Dearborn, at Edison Junior High and Stout Middle Schools. He resided in Dearborn for many years until recently moving to the Milford and Brighton area. Family will hold a private memorial to celebrate his life. Arrangements by Howe-Peterson of Dearborn.
