Beloved husband of the late Jackie for 47 years. Loving father of Julie Sparks (Steven) and Jocelyn Bierkle (Patrick).  Proud grandfather of Abigail Sparks, Grahm Bierkle, Jackson Sparks and Reid Bierkle.  Dear brother of the late Elsie Auberman and Bertha Barrett. Uncle of John Barrett, Carolyn Lindholm, Kathy Johnson, Elizabeth Kata and the late Robert Barrett. John was a lifelong resident of Dearborn. He attended school at St Alphonsus from elementary through high school, and graduated Class of 1949.

He worked at Detroit Steel as a clerk until he was inducted into the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.  Upon his return to the US, he ran a party store with a friend until finding a career in mortgage banking with American Federal Savings. He also attended University of Detroit at night, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration.

John was always interested in antiques, and throughout his life he enjoyed acquiring and restoring objects that he found.  After retiring, he turned this hobby into a second career buying and selling antiques.  He also appreciated classic cars of all kinds, and always knew how to fix pretty much anything!
