Obituary

Bissen, John James Jack Aged 63 of New Boston, MI died at home on March 24, 2010 following a valiant battle with Esophageal Cancer. Jack was born to Ferdinand Fred and Gertrude Bissen in Muskegon, MI, December 30, 1946. He attended and graduated from North Muskegon High School 1964, where he lettered in football. He worked briefly at Teledyne Corp. in Muskegon then enlisted in the Army, where he served from June 2, 1966 to November 25, 1968, when he was honorably discharged. After another short time in Muskegon, he moved to the Detroit, MI area where he worked at an employment office until he sent himself on an interview with Airborne Freight Corp. He worked for Airborne which subsequently became DHL, from August 21, 1972 until his official retirement in April, 2009. He married Linda Moody on July 3, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they resided at their Exeter Twp., MI home for all but one year of their marriage. They traveled extensively over the years and had planned to continue their traveling over the course of their retirement. Jack was a long time member and generous supporter of the Humane Society of Monroe County. He spent many hours volunteering in many capacities for this organization and at one time was a board member. Jack doted on his own animals as well as caring for those with no home. He was also a member of the Erie Shores Birding Association. Jack was an avid golfer, was at one time a competitive bowler, and enjoyed being a spectator in almost all sports, both live and via remote control. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard Dick Bissen, a brother William Bill Bissen and a sister Denise Todd. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda. He is also survived by a brother in law, Steve Lisa Moody; sisters in law Janice McCasland, Judith Bissen, and Patricia Richard Dycus. He is survived by an aunt, Norma Gill and two cousins, Wayne Mary Benson and Larry Benson, several nephews and nieces, and many, many friends. The Funeral Service is scheduled for Sunday, 2:00pm at the Taylor Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph Road. Visitation is on Friday, is from 4-9pm and Saturday, 12-9pm.
