John C. Gambrel, of Dearborn Heights, passed away on May 24th, 2019

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Ida Lee. John was the loving father of Donald Gambrel (Cindy), Laura Murray, Tony Gambrel, Mitzi Girardin (Larry), and Julia Manley (Kevin). Proud Grandfather of Sean, Nathan, Chris (Rob), Michelle, Tony, Jeremy, Joshua, Daniel, Brian, Joellen, Katie, Robert, Davis, Stacia, Phylicia, and Katherine. Great Grandfather of Alexis, Brendan, Elizabeth (Lizzy), Caleb, Charlie, Cruise, Arabella, Mitchell, Jordan, Gabbriella, Derrick, Emily, Rylee, Hayden, Grayson, McKay, Samuel, Sullivan, Colton, Ezekiel, Alaina, Kennedy and Veronica and Rylee. Great Great Grandfather of Gianna. Dear brother of Samuel, Abbie, William, Essie, Lincoln, Mary, David, Nanny, Fanny, Otie, Everett, Jane, Grace and Ellen.

John was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army for 20 years. After retiring from the Army John worked for 20 years at the National Bank of Detroit.

John loved to travel and spend time with his family. John was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to family, friend, and community. He was always very generous with his time and talent. Over the years John was active in the church, Boy Scouts, VFW (Life Member and Post Commander), DAV, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Little League Baseball, Dearborn Heights Police Auxiliary, and the National Republican party.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28th, from 4 – 8PM. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 29th at 12:00PM. All services will be held at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 Telegraph Road. John will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
