John Joseph Miller

John Joseph Miller, Sr., age 78, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 21, 2026.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, John lived most of his life in Dearborn, Michigan, building a rich life centered around family, humor, and a deep appreciation for good company.

John served for four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, working as a communications officer in Northern Minnesota and Taichung, Taiwan. Following his service, he built a successful career as a computer systems analyst, eventually retiring as a contractor for Ford Motor Company.

In 1969, John married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Charlene. They shared a devoted partnership until her passing in 2007.

A dedicated and proud father, John often said he couldn't wait for his sons to grow up so he could be their friend as well as their dad. He was particularly fond of the holidays and, until his last adult son moved out of the house, he would sit under the tree on Christmas morning, handing out every gift one by one.

John was quite the storyteller. He was witty, fun-loving, and always ready with a great joke. His favorite moments involved swapping tales over a cold beer, singing at family parties, and taking trips to Ocean City, Maryland. He loved cruising in his Corvette, playing with his dog Cody, and cheering for the University of Notre Dame.

He is survived by his three loving sons, John Jr. (Laura), Brian (Amy), and Michael (Felicia); his eight cherished grandchildren, Emily, Claire, Kate, Sean, Joseph, Caitie, Brendan, and Colin; and his sister, Judith Velasco (James). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlene; his father, James Dietrich Sr.; his mother, Rose Genevieve; his brother, James Dietrich Jr.; his sister-in-law Mary; and his sister, Mary Paula.
