John Quentin
Minick
August 14, 1934 – July 26, 2024
John Quentin Minick passed away on July 26, 2024, two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. He leaves behind his dear sister, Margaret "Pat" Abbott and his sister-in-law, Polly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Beatrice, and his siblings, Mary Frances (Ronald), Michael (Joan), and Thomas.
John grew up working on the family's dairy farm. He graduated high school in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard soon after. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard, John once again served the country in the CIA for another three years.
When he had completed his service, he enrolled and completed the training and apprenticeship to become a journeyman electrician and retired in 1995 from the union. During his career, he worked at Smith Electric, Chrysler Proving Grounds, Monroe Power Plant, and Ann Arbor healthcare facilities. However, he found the most fulfillment doing residential work because he could build a more meaningful relationship with the individual homeowners.
John also was a member of the Detroit Organ Society, a group that focuses on the building, service, and restoration of pipe organs. He even installed a 1937 theater organ into his basement at his Ann Arbor home.
A memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dearborn on Monday, Aug. 12 at 11am. Gathering at the church begins at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's name are appreciated to the Humane Society of Huron Valley ( https://www.hshv.org/) or another charity of your choosing.
