Obituary

John W Tyer, 90 of Canton, Michigan died on January 4, 2023.

John was born on July 6, 1932 in Allen Park, Michigan, the son of Elsie (Patow) and John Tyer.

After graduating from Melvindale High School, he was asked to serve in the Korean War.  Upon his return, he was blessed with an opportunity to pursue his passion of photography as a profession at General Motors Photographic division. He retired in 1994 after a long fulfilling career.

John and Marian were married in 1958 and made their home in Allen Park, Michigan, where they had two children.  Later, he moved to Romulus to allow him to have a garden and feel connected with the earth again. John enjoyed being active at St. Paul Lutheran Church, golf, bowling, time with his family, and extended vacations on Lake Avalon.

He is survived by his children: Charis (Robert) Cunningham of Gibraltar and Jeffrey (Janet) Tyer of Indian River; his grandchildren: Travis Cunningham of Auburn Hills, and Jessica Tyer of Mesa, AZ.; and 9 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marian (Klein) Tyer and his brother William Tyer.

There will be a viewing on Friday, January 13th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave., 48124.  The funeral service for John will be Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dearborn, Michigan.  The service will be preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
