John James Wisniewski, MD, MPHA
Born April 13, 1952, in Detroit Michigan
Died April 16, 2026, at home with his family at his bedside. He is survived by his wife Michelle (Hays), brother Robert (Karyn), brother-in-law Perry, sister by choice Patricia Thorup and many cousins. His parents John R. Wisniewski and Dorothy (Bukowicz) preceded him in death.
John was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart High, University of Michigan, Wayne State School of Medicine, University of Michigan School of Public Health and the Motion Picture Institute.
After a long career in health care as a physician, administrator, educator and consultant he was ultimately able to pursue his lifelong dream and passion for making movies that started as a child. His time working with a group of fellow filmmakers who shared his love of all things creative brought him many of his happiest moments in life.
His unique sense of humor, extraordinary intelligence and interest in learning more about disparate topics of ancient history, arts, science, music, theater, movies and politics will be remembered by anyone who knew him. He was an avid reader and collector of books and art related to any of his many diverse interests. John and Michelle were married for 45 years sharing a ‘sweetie hood’ that started with a professional disagreement that rapidly led to deep respect and love for each other that few people are ever able to experience. They shared their life, love and home with many rescued cats, dogs, and birds. John felt a deep sense of loss and grief when the last one recently preceded him in death.
Special thanks to Emily for her care and friendship over the last year.
In lieu of flowers contributions in his name may be made to the Detroit Institute of Arts or Huron Valley Humane Society.
