Jose R.
Barretto
March 19, 1948 – May 7, 2022
Jose Barretto passed away on May 7, 2022. Beloved husband of Aurora. Dear father of Catherine (David) Sanchez, Carl (Carie) Barretto, and Chris (Falon) Barretto. Proud grandfather of Samantha, Emilio, Abigail, Audrey, Annabella, Maleah, Dominic, Jonah, and Eloise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maximo and Felisa.
Jose was a loving, caring, and kind man who loved his family deeply. One cannot miss his trademark buzzcut. He was a very jolly father and grandfather, who loved making people laugh.
Sadly, on May 7, 2022 at the age of 74, Jose passed away. He was born in Manila, Philippines. Jose and his loving wife of 50 years, Aurora, met in High School, and after 4 years began their romantic relationship. They reached their 50th anniversary this year. They were married twice in one week, a civil ceremony and formal ceremony. Their civil ceremony was on November 17th, and after spending the required one-week retreat at Guiguinto Church, they married again on November 25th for their formal ceremony. Jose studied Mechanical Engineering at Manuel L. Quezon University where his Mama was a professor and taught Economics. After college, Jose worked at the Malakanang Government where the Filipino President resided. He was an avid participant in the office choir. Jose loved listening to many musical artists, such as The Bee Gees, The Beatles, Journey, and several Filipino musicals artists. Jose participated annually at the Black Nazarene procession, totaling 15 years, before traveling and moving to The United States.
Jose has amassed an extensive Hotwheels/Matchbox collection, with over 500 cars. A collection he started for his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching sports, as well as playing basketball, bowling, and tennis. He and his family loved traveling to Toronto, Canada almost every week to visit extended family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and cheering them on at their sporting events. He loved giving everyone a nickname. He and Aurora, called each other "Boss" and his children calling him "Di". His grandchildren lovingly called him "Lolo".
Jose was the most generous, loving, kind, and funny person. It would not be out of the ordinary to see Jose busting a move and promptly start a party with his dancing. Jose enjoyed entertaining people with his singing and dancing. He was always the life of the party. Jose/Boss/Di/Lolo will be deeply missed.
Visitation at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14, 11am-5pm. Service will be held at the funeral home at 2pm.
