Joseph M. Lynch, Sr. December 2, 2007 Son of the late Edward J. and Cecilia Lynch. Father of Joseph M. Lynch, Jr. Brigid and Marybeth Lynch-Verga Pepe. Formerly married to Marietta Gerrity-Lynch. Companion of June Kinney. Grandfather of Cara Lynch, Kellie Lynch and John Patrick Verga. Step grandfather of Christopher Verga, Alexander Verga and Catherine Verga. Brother of Edward Maryann Lynch, Tom Joanne Lynch and the late Michael and Frank Lynch. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Longtime Dearborn native died suddenly in Clearwater Florida. Born in Detroit, Michigan October 27, 1934 to Edward and Cecilia. After graduating from the Dearborn School system Joe went on to wed Marietta Gerrity in 1955. Joe was very active in Dearborn sports for over 40 years as both a player and coach in five different sports including baseball, hockey, football, softball and basketball. While with Ford Motor Co. Joe played on many championship softball and basketball teams. Joe's many accomplishments earned him a spot in the Dearborn sports hall of Fame in 1980. Joe began working in 1952 at Ford Motor Co. and his automotive engineering career spanned over 50 years. After leaving Ford Joe owned and operated Lynch Engineering, a company that designed and developed new cars for Ford. As a proud Irishman, Joe enjoyed storytelling, fall Saturdays at the Big House and cheering on the Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday 2 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. Memorial Gathering Saturday 11:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter in Joe's memory would be appreciated.
