Joseph William
Miller
March 18, 1941 – August 18, 2024
It is with great honor that we celebrate the life of Joseph Miller. Proud son of Anthony
and Virginia. Joseph's legacy lives on in the many branches of his family tree. His
children: Geoffrey Thiede, Rhonda (Thiede) Kasperek, Michelle (Miller) Mercurio,
Melissa (Miller) Stipcak. Grandchildren: Danielle Donahue, Katelyn Baron, Brandon
"Bubba" Thiede, Erik Thiede, Shaun Thiede, Ashley Trott, Ashton Kasperek, Gavin
Thiede, Tyler Stipcak, Joseph Stipcak, Damian Stipcak. Great grandchildren: Hailey, Brady, Julia,
Jaxon, Xander, Gabriel, Hunter, Adeline, and Wylie. Beloved brother of previously
passed siblings: Robert Miller, Richard Miller, Ruth Anne (Miller) Slanec, and Charles
Miller. Nieces and nephew David Slanec, Jackie Boedgieff, and Denise King.
Joseph touched many lives and left an impact on everyone he encountered. He lived life
with passion and hunger, he had a fierce love for his country and faith in God. He lived
with the confidence that Jesus would provide. He had a peaceful demeanor and a
weakness for all animals and never met a dog he didn't like. Described best by a close
friend as "one hell of a man, that would give you the shirt off his back and the last penny
in his pocket. He was always the person to call if you needed something". Joseph was
affectionate, dedicated and hard working. He was a man of character and discipline
which he attributed to his father, Anthony who was his hero and a remarkable man.
Joseph often spoke of the tremendous love and admiration he had for his mother
Virginia who excelled despite having meager resources and a very basic education. In
his opinion she was also the baker of the world's finest molasses cookies.
Joseph was a Vietnam veteran and a lifelong Michigan resident. During the course of
his life Joseph was known as an Entrepreneur, Soldier, Mentor, Outdoorsman and
Coach. Once his children were grown with families of their own, some of his best times
were spent on the front porch of his cabin in northern Michigan enjoying the sights,
sounds and tranquility of nature. Despite many challenges and setbacks in life, both
medically and personally, he persevered with fierce determination and continued to
prevail and succeed. Life with Joseph was always an adventure filled with animals,
music, laughter, nature, family, affection, and fond memories.
Joseph will be loved and missed dearly. He will be laid to rest with his family at Our
Lady of Hope Cemetery and will live on in our hearts and memories
