Obituary

Joseph Henry Mizzi, age 94, passed away on January 10, 2026.

Joseph was born March 16, 1931, in Detroit Michigan.  He was the oldest of four sons born to his parents, Frank and Mary Mizzi.  He graduated from St. Vincent High School in Detroit in 1949.  Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea in 1953-1954.

In 1955, Joseph married the late Mary Ann, and they had three children, Joseph (Pam), Cecelia (Thomas), and Christopher (Carri).  Seven years after Mary Ann's passing in 1979, Joseph married Serena, and they had a daughter, Elizabeth.

He was the beloved brother to John (Helen), George (Peggy), and Franklin.  He is survived by his brother George, wife Serena, children Chris and Elizabeth, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph spent 39 years as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.  His sons, Joe and Chris eventually joined him, and the family business continues seven decades later.  Joseph stayed involved in the industry even after his retirement, as an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers, and he continued investing and following the stock market until weeks before his passing.

He was a man of deep faith and commitment to the Catholic church. His life bore witness to the Gospel through his selfness service to others, dedication to family, and patience in suffering.   He freely gave of his time and services to the church as a lector, board member, and volunteer.

We are blessed to have had him in our lives.  He always listened to people intently, was always interested in how somebody was doing, and always had a kind word to say.  The way he lived his life set an example of for the rest of us, and he had an impact on everybody he came into contact with.  The oldest son of immigrants who came to this country to make a better life for themselves and their family, Joseph carved his path and succeeded in a difficult business, leaving a legacy that continues to this day.  His life is an example of the American dream realized.
