Obituary

Judith Marie Boyle (nee' Renaud)

May 6, 1947 – October 29, 2022

After a life well lived, Judy died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family and listening to football on TV.  She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Wooddell (Victor), her grandchildren, Aleksey and Sasha, her brother, Mark Renaud (Pat), her sister, Mary Jo Olmstead, her niece, Joanna Olmstead, and her nephew, Eric Olmstead (Becky).

Judy was the daughter of Patrick Renaud and Marjorie (Esper) Renaud.  She was a standout at Sacred Heart High School where she was a Homecoming Princess in 1965, played on the basketball team, served on the cheerleading squad and made many lifelong friends, including her high school best friend, Micki Cibor, who would become godmother to her daughter.

After high school, she studied nursing and became an LPN, where she specialized in working with older populations.  In 1971, she married Hugh VanOoteghem, another Sacred Heart athletic standout and in 1974, she gave birth to her only child, Michelle.

Over the next decade, she opened her home to many families in Dearborn as a babysitter, where she formed lifelong relationships with the children, especially her "boys," Brad and Kyle Freitag. Eventually, she began working for the City of Dearborn, holding positions in the Mayor's office, the Library and the Courts.

In 1996, she married Richard Boyle in Las Vegas, one of her favorite cities in the world. When her ex-husband, Hugh, remarried, they continued to be friends and Judy also befriended his new wife, Peggy.

When she retired from the city, she turned her attention to being a fulltime grandmother to Aleksey and Sasha, helping them grow up and become the teenagers that they are today. She also adored her son-in-law, Victor, who she never failed to call "Handsome."

Throughout her life, Judy had a love for dogs, including the original Maverick and Taffy (her childhood dogs) and the dogs she loved as an adult, another Maverick, another Taffy, and her beloved Ruby – who was by her side when she passed.

Judy's love for football was well-known and she died comfortable in the knowledge that Michigan was having a spectacular season and that there is always next year for the Detroit Lions.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Judy do so by making a charitable donation to a charity of your choice.
