Julie Ann
Donahue
August 6, 1939 – January 29, 2025
Julie Ann (Steinaway) Donahue, age 85, of Dearborn, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Julie was born in Detroit on August 6, 1939, to parents Reuben and Florence Steinaway. After graduating from Fordson High School in 1957, she graduated from Henry Ford Community College in 1959 and Eastern Michigan University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. While teaching third grade at Cherry Hill School District, Julie earned her Master of Education degree at Eastern (Once a Huron, Always a Huron) in 1965.
During her time at HFCC, Julie met and married the love of her life, Carroll Donahue, on May 25, 1963. While raising her two sons, Jeff and Mark, Julie volunteered at Greenfield Village and was involved with various Dearborn Schools PTAs, as well as being a Den Mother, a member of the Cherry Hill #32 group of The Questers, and a volunteer for many years at the information desk of the Henry Ford Medical Center-Fairlane. In her spare time, she enjoyed yoga and reading. In later years, Julie discovered a love for gardening as well.
She and Carroll loved to travel with their sons and with their close friends Ron and Val Theisen, Jack and Kathy DeRyuter, and Doug and Kay Neff. Memorable trips with the boys included Hawaii and Scotland. Julie and Carroll created life-long friendships with many people, including from Carroll's work and the boys' soccer teams. Julie loved to spend time laughing with all of them.
Julie and Carroll went to numerous concerts and watched hundreds of Red Wings games. They loved antiquing with friends and amassed a large collection of antique clocks, which they displayed throughout their Dearborn home. Julie also had a passion for shopping for clothes for herself and her boys. She might have been one of the first people in Michigan to discover an early outlet mall near Niagara Falls, where she loved finding deals at the Polo store.
Julie loved music, especially what we now call "classic rock" and singer-songwriters like James Taylor. She also had a great sense of humor, loving funny movies like The Blues Brothers, The Pink Panther and anything by Mel Brooks. She took her sons to see all the original Star Wars movies multiple times. Above all, she dedicated her life to caring for Carroll, Jeff, and Mark. They miss her and always will.
Julie is survived by Carroll, her husband of nearly 62 years, her two sons Jeff (Erin) Donahue and Mark (Michelle) Donahue, seven grandchildren – Matthew, Claire, Alexa, Joseph, Brendan, Madison, and Jude, her brother-in-law Patrick (Gretta) Donahue, sister-in-law Joann Conrad, sister-in-law Mary (Don) Schock, eight nieces and nephews, and numerous other family members and friends. Julie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother William. A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Dearborn location of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 22546 Michigan Avenue, 48124.
