Katherine Ann Porach

Katherine Ann Porach, beloved partner, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 12, 2026. She is leaving behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories.

Born on June 11, 1944, Kathy grew up in Detroit and graduated from Visitation High School in 1962. She went on to build a fulfilling career with the National Labor Relations Board, where she began as a secretary and, through her hard work and intelligence, worked her way up to become a Field Examiner. Her career was a reflection of the qualities that defined her throughout her life: she was smart, capable, hardworking, and never one to seek recognition for her accomplishments.

Kathy was a kind and humble person with a wonderful wit and a sharp mind. She could beat anyone at trivia games. If you expected to play Trivial Pursuit with her and win, you were going to be very disappointed. Kathy also had a way of making people laugh and feel comfortable, and her genuine warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. It was this kind and empathetic nature that led her to volunteer for the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit for many years.

She had a great love for sports, especially her Detroit teams. Whether cheering for the Tigers, Lions, or Red Wings, Kathy was a loyal fan who enjoyed following her teams and sharing in the excitement of every season.

Kathy was a loving partner to Joe for many years. They built a relationship based on mutual love and respect. They loved to travel together and venture into new restaurants. They could often be found at home enjoying a new recipe and some great music. Their relationship could best be summed up with the quote, “You may no longer be next to me, but you are woven into everything I am.”

Kathy was the beloved sister of Mary and Margaret. She was also the cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a beloved great-aunt to her great nieces and nephews. She took great joy in her family and treasured the many relationships and memories they shared. She loved to be involved in everything her family was doing and she took great pride in being a fantastic aunt.

Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, humility, intelligence, quick wit, and generous spirit. She will be deeply missed by Joe, Mary, Margaret, her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Katherine's Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48124. Gathering at church Monday from 10:30 a.m. Visitation Sunday 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Dearborn Location of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 22546 Michigan Ave. 48124. Interment St. Hedwig Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit or Special Olympics
