Obituary

Kathleen Grace Maj was born on October 10,1925 to Albert and Kate Anna Chylla. She
married her Honey, Frank on June 23,1945 at Saint Andrew's Church in Detroit Michigan.
Kathy, known as Gracie to some, and her husband gave birth to four children: Frank Jr
(deceased), Thomas, Mary and Ray. Kathy was the sole survivor of the Chylla and Maj families.
A few years after the birth of their last child, Kathy became employed as a sales clerk at Sears
Roebuck and Company, a retail giant at the time. She was exceptionally proud of her
employment and dedication to the retail industry. She exhibited the true value of service and
was exceptionally disappointed with the current state of affairs in the retail service industry.
She worked in the following departments: Garden Shop, Toys, Ladies Intimates, Towels and
Bedding. She retired in 1991.
Kathy and Frank were well known for always taking the time to celebrate life's events of family
and friends no matter how late they would arrive at an event because of their work schedules.
Both of them dedicated time and effort to helping the elderly and those in need, especially Mr.
and Mrs Brewis, Helen Vaillancourt, Ma and Pa Maj and Mom and Dad Chylla. Kathy and
Frank were great role models for graciously accepting the responsibility of taking care of elderly
parents and friends.
The two of them loved to dance at weddings especially when their favorite song was played:
Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Kathy enjoyed bowling, sunbathing, playing bingo with her
mother, playing pinochle and gambling at the casinos. In her younger years Kathy and her
husband loved Sunday nights when they bowled and then played pinochle with their friends
Stan and Marie Kindy and Helen Vaillancourt. Kathy loved her food. She valued meal time and
savored every bite while encouraging everyone to eat more and to finish everything on the
table. If someone left meat on a pork chop bone or on a rib, she would gladly indulge in the
task of nibbling. In her early retirement Kathy spent many years enjoying the comfort of her
home and spending time with her mother until her death at the age of 100.
In 1964 Kathy was given 10 years to live after her diagnosis of colon cancer. She became a
cancer survivor and eventually mourned the loss of her Honey, Frank (1971) and her eldest son,
Frank Jr. (2016) to the disease of cancer. Kathy embraced her colostomy with dignity and with
utmost cleanliness.
Besides her children Kathy's immediate family includes: Tonya, Pat, Lee, Laurence; Frankie III,
Eric, Chris, Matthew, Timothy, Glenn, Beth, (Sherik, Danielle, Madeline, Nicole, Kelly and Eric) .
Kathy also has 15 great-grandchildren.
Kathy's resiliency and determination resulted in a life well-lived and fruitful. Her simple lifestyle,
money management skills, thriftiness and her abiding thankfulness of God's gifts fostered her
richness of life despite confronting the obstacles of aging.

A private burial will take place on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020.
