Kevin Thomas O’Brien, lifelong resident of Dearborn, passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on April 17, 1965, Kevin spent his entire life in the city he loved and proudly called home.
Kevin was a loving father to Heather Scott (Bryan), Shalynn O’Donnell, and Cassie Baydoun (Jihad). He was also the grandfather of Boston, Oakley, and Adam.
Kevin grew up in Dearborn and graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1983, where he excelled in both football and swimming. Athletics were a major part of his younger years and those who knew him often remembered the pride and passion he carried for sports. He even set a state champion in breaststroke at just 12 years old!
In the early 1990s, he began his career with the City of Dearborn, dedicating more than 34 years of service to the community he cared deeply about. Kevin became highly respected for his leadership where he started the City of Dearborn’s Backflow Prevention Program. His hard work, expertise, and commitment helped him rise through the ranks and earn recognition throughout his career.
Outside of work, Kevin was known for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh. He was the family grill master and an incredible cook who loved bringing people together around food and conversation. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, fixing things, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Kevin took great pride in his work for charity including his role as one of the founding fathers of Smoke on the Grill Dearborn. This Goodfellows charity event still lives on today, marking over 25 years of impact on the community!
Kevin also had a lifelong passion for music and concerts, something that brought him a great deal of joy throughout the years. His smile, sense of humor, and presence could light up any room.
Kevin will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, humor, generosity, and the lasting impact he had on the people fortunate enough to know and love him.
