Obituary

Larry Kalmar, age 74, passed away April 27, 2023.

Beloved husband of Tuzi Kalmar.
Proud stepfather of Favour Ewe, Anointed Ewe, Emmanuella Ewe, and the late Nathaniel Ewe.
Caring uncle of Dana and Paul Elbe.
Dear brother of the late Gary, and brother-in-law of Carol Kalmar.
Cherished friend of Brian and Katherine, Bennett and Pat Osiah.

Larry lived a multifaceted life filled with adventure and leaves quite the legacy behind. He was a successful engineer and played a part in the construction of many local architectural wonders. Those who have visited Ford Field, Comerica Park, and the polar bear exhibit at the Detroit Zoo will have witness first-hand Larry's contributions to the metro-Detroit area! In his spare time, he enjoyed communing with nature - he could often be found exploring the woods taking wonderful photographs. Larry also had a penchant for travel; he had visited Canada and all but 3 states in the USA! He also loved to cook and had many cook books that he used to make meals for his family.

Larry taught classes at an adult education school in St. Clair Shores which included Auto Cad, technical drawings, heating and cooling for buildings and plumbing.

In 1971 Larry attended a private apprenticeship school and was the 1st recipient to receive the John Walencewicz memorial award for the top apprentice.

Larry was mechanically inclined and knew all about engines whether it was car engine or plane engine he could take them apart and put them all back together and it ran. He once asked his friend to find him an old Ford Windstar, so he could use the frame and build a dune buggy, he said the frame was a perfect match for it.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 1:00-4:00pm and a Memorial Service will take place at 2:00pm located at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home 9800 Telegraph Rd. Taylor, MI 48180.

Family Tributes:

Tribute to my Papa
Knowing you Papa was a lovely opportunity for me, I could remember times when you called my name and when you cooked lovely dishes that you were waiting for my arrival so I eat those delicious meal. With tears I just want to be grateful to you for caring for my mom and making efforts for I and my siblings to come over to the United States, and we were looking forward to seeing each other but you transcended to the great beyond. I will miss you Papa, I love you. Rest in eternal peace. Your dear Favour Ewe
Tribute to my Stepdad My dear Papa, it was such a wonderful opportunity to have known you but my heart bleeds because it was too short a time. I wish you would have lived longer to see me face to face as you always have wished. I remember how we always talk in video and you'll ask me how I'm doing. You also sent me gift on my birthday, I'll miss you. Your application for me to come over to the United States is a proof of your love towards me and my siblings. It saddens my heart that Nathaniel passed away and in a short-while, while we still mourn him you too passed away. I know you're in heaven with Nathaniel and I pray your gentle soul rest in peace. Thank you for taking of my mom and loving us. We love you too. Your loving daughter, Emmanuella Chioma Ewe🙏
Hey my dear Papa You know life isn't fair, and this is one of those times. I know that you are reading this from heaven, I know that you will never hunger and thirst again in heaven. I want to thank you for taking good care of my mom and for loving me and my siblings, you had also applied for us to come to the United States. I know that you were looking forward to our arrival but unfortunately the cold hands of death snatched you away from us. I will miss you very very much Papa. Love you Papa, may your gentle soul rest in eternal peace!! Your loving son, Anointed Chinweike Ewe
My Cherished Memories:
My beloved husband wanted only the best for me. He Loved me and the kids. He gave us everything and cared so much for our welfare. Your legacy is indelible, by them I am strengthened. You took me to many places, traveled up north where I just loved West Grayling and all the beautiful lakes, we spent many days in hotels and driving around just seeing beautiful places. You took me to the Lumber-Jack restaurant for lunch. You took me to places of your memories, especially the Henry Ford Museum where I was able to see and sit on the Rosa Parks bus. You were my handy man, my teacher my instructor and you were there for me in every which way, I never had a care in the world when you were with me. You always had so much to teach and answer my silly questions I asked. You were my photographer. A man who loved nature, sometimes we went to parks just to listen to the frogs. You took me to almost all the parks in Metro Detroit, almost all the nice restaurants in Michigan. You Americanized me in such a short period of time. We were still mourning our son Nathaniel, and you were there for me all the time. You comforted me and then you yourself became ill. Now you are gone, I'm empty. I will miss you and will Love You Always. Tuzi.
