Leonard Mckee
Moore
January 14, 1928 – February 3, 2023
Leonard McKee Moore was born in Toronto Ontario Canada on January 14, 1928. His family soon moved to Peterborough where he was raised. When Leonard was a teen, his father took a job in the United States and moved the family to Detroit. He enjoyed his first meal in the United States on August 11, 1944 at the Roma Café in Detroit's eastern market, which became his life-long dining mecca.
Leonard attended Wayne State and U of M, obtaining a Masters in Accounting, Masters in Finance and his JD from U of M Law School in 1952.
Leonard enlisted in the Korean conflict to expedite his US citizenship. When his general found he had an attorney on staff, Leonard was pulled from combat duty to handle other matters.
In 1956, close friends introduced him to Deloris Turner, a kindergarten teacher at Greenfield Village, known now as The Henry Ford. A year later the two were married in NYC at the Church of the Transfiguration. They made their home in Dearborn, MI for their entire 556 month marriage-- Leonard believed in celebrating monthly, rather than yearly to spare Deloris from cooking!
He worked for Price Waterhouse, General Motors and the City of Dearborn Legal Staff before 'hanging out his shingle' in his own law practice of Kosinski & Moore with partner, Raymond Kosinski. Leonard continued the practice after the death of his partner, until he suffered a stroke and was forced (by his son) to retire at the age of 86 to focus on his grandchildren.
Leonard was an active member of his community frequently serving on the boards providing financial and legal support while participating in many diverse organizations: The Dearborn Historical Commission, First United Methodist Church, The Masons, Dearborn Pioneers, Dearborn Goodfellows, the Dearborn Symphony, Dearborn Community Arts Council, Knights of Columbus Bishop Foley Council at Divine Child, and his beloved Exchange Club of Dearborn, where he served for 54 years in many capacities, including President. He was a learned man and ferocious reader, participating in 7 book clubs concurrently. Leonard's small business practice allowed him to jumpstart and support many individual's career dreams for which he was most proud. Given all of his community support, knowledge, clients, friends and family history, Leonard became a colorful story teller which will be shared in his remembrance.
Leonard is survived by his son, Richard (Amy), and grandchildren Peter, Julian, and Justine; sister Annette Robinson, niece Kathy (John) Roeser and nephew Jim (Kathy) Robinson, a great-niece and four great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, Leonard requested donations be made to the Exchange Club of Dearborn, 23400 Park St, Dearborn, MI 48124.
Leonard's Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8th at the Church of the Divine Child, 1055 Silvery Lane, Dearborn, MI 48128. Gathering at church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. Rosary Tuesday 7pm.
