Lillian Cleo
Edwards
July 6, 1928 – July 24, 2024
Lillian Cleo Edwards passed away on July 24, 2024 at the age of 96.
Lillian was the loving mother of David (Deb) Edwards, Lisa (Steve) Lawrence, John (Sherry) Edwards, Paul (Terri) Edwards, Rebecca (Tim) Walker, and Mona aka Shelly (Matt) Blanton. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren (plus 2 on the way), and 4 great-great-grandchildren (plus 1 on the way). She was preceded in death by her dear husband, David Edwards, Sr., daughter-in-law Susan Edwards, grandson Matthew Edwards, grandson Justin Paul Edwards, granddaughter Jenna Ashley Edwards, and great-great granddaughter Juniper Bea Gibson, as well as her parents, James and Nora Vincent, sister Yvonne, and brothers Charles and James.
Our mother was affectionately known as "Granny" by most all who knew her. Together with our father, she raised us to love and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Savior. While she often worked outside the home to earn an income to help pay for our Christian school education, her greatest influence was inside our home, teaching us through her example to read, understand, and love the Bible; to pray; and to love and support our church.
Mom was a model of Christ-like character and godliness, dedicating her life to serving the Lord Jesus in her local church as the Beginner's (Pre-K) Children's Sunday School teacher. She frequently invited pastors, missionaries, and itinerant evangelists in our home to feed and love on them. She served everyone she met, but her priority was always her family, devoting her life to us in meals she prepared, the house she kept, and the discipline she provided. The Sunday dinners she single-handedly prepared each week provided us with a place of love and laughter around a table overflowing with roast and potatoes with gravy, noodles, corn, and sweet potatoes, sweet tea, topped off with made-from-scratch chocolate cake – a meal she never sat down to enjoy with us because she was always occupied serving us.
Our mother is safe in the arms of Jesus now, not because of any of the things we've just shared with you. She's with Jesus because she believed on Jesus and trusted all that He had done for her on the cross to save her from her sins.
In her memory, we ask that memorial donations be made to Call for Backup (www.callforbackup.org/pages/donate), a nonprofit organization that provides programs supporting first responder mental health.
