Obituary

Lorraine M. Olsen 1928 - 2013 Lorraine Margaret Ameen was born to Paul and Leona Ameen of Ishpeming, Michigan on April 5, 1928. She grew up surrounded by two older brothers, Paul Ameen and Howard "Fritz" Ameen and one younger brother, Donald (Paula) Ameen who survives her. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Roberts. Lorraine graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1946. She was crowned Miss Ishpeming at the Ishpeming Carnival Snow Ball in 1947. Her first job was with her father's trucking company, the Ameen Transfer Line in Ishpeming, Michigan. It was here that she began referring to her father as the "old Boy" when speaking with his truck drivers about him. This habit lasted a lifetime and everyone knew who she was referring to. She married Robert Edward Olsen on March 23, 1951. They had three children: James Robert (Lynne), Barbara Jeanne, and an infant son who died at birth. Lorraine and Bob moved downstate when Bob accepted a teaching/coaching position with the Dearborn Fordson High School. The camaraderie among the coaching staff lasted a lifetime among this Fordson Football Coaches Group. They made their home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan raising their children among a very close-knit neighborhood group on Brookside Drive. They were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church of Dearborn. Lorraine's organizational skills served her very well throughout her employment years with the Dearborn Public Schools, Bill Brown TV, and J.Walter Thompson Advertising Company. Lorraine loved people and everyone she had the pleasure of meeting became a special friend to her. She also loved her family and keeping track of everyone's activities. She especially loved her three grandchildren; Jennifer Lynne, Eric James, and Jayme Lorraine of whom she was so very proud. Lorraine had a passion for golf, travel, and the theatre. Her travels took her all over the world. Her love of the theatre led her to volunteer at the Fisher Theatre. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, the Henry Ford Fairlane Health Center and the Library at the Dearborn United Methodist Church. Through it all, Lorraine embraced and celebrated life with a glass of wine in her hand! She lived the last couple years of her life fiercely independent under the watchful eye of the Staff at the Oakwood Commons Retirement Community. And she spent the last several weeks of her life blessed by the additional loving care she received from Angela Hospice. Lorraine passed from this life to the next on Friday, March 22, 2013. She will be missed at every family celebration, but her spirit and strong principals will live on in all of her family and friends who were touched by her.
