Obituary

Louis Samuel Lapham

Louis (Lou) Samuel Lapham was born January 16th, 1949, continuing the Lapham legacy in Dearborn, Michigan. A man who honored his heritage, Lou spoke proudly of the historical impact his family had on the creation of the city.

Those with the fortune to know him will say that Lou's passion for sharing his wealth of knowledge with the people around him was unrivaled; to leave a conversation without having learned something interesting was as rare as his collectibles. Lou is described by loved ones as fascinating and eccentric. His two sons, David and Joseph, call their father an incredible man who was as cool as he was kind.

Lou was deeply passionate about researching the obscure; discovering buried facts about cars, music, and world history energized his mind, bringing new life to his findings. Once Lou learned how to do something, he was immediately looking for ways to apply it. The man loved to get his hands dirty, passing on his ingenuity to create things with a signature stamp to his children and grandchildren.

Lou didn't hesitate to extend a hand to all who needed help, regardless of acquaintance. His boisterous laugh and outgoing personality was a force to be reckoned with, allowing him to find a place among his many social clubs with ease. Lou was a man who everyone wanted to know, and if you didn't know him personally, you knew of him through the stories of his friends.

Louis Samuel Lapham passed away from heart failure on Tuesday evening, April 10th, 2018 at the age of 69 after his friends and family shared with him their love and laughter. Lou lives on through his wife of 45 years, Sharon Ann, and sons David (Jenny), and Joseph. More than a grandfather, he was Popp-o to Eve, Jacqueline, Ada, and Maeve. He is survived by his brother, Daryl (Debbie) Lapham. Louis is preceded by his parents, Louis Xavier and Evelyn Louise.

Our loss is a tragic one, as he has left us too soon, but the gift of his character will forever live on in our stories and history.

A celebration of Lou's life will be held on Sunday, April 15th, 2018 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm with a eulogy at 7:00pm at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48124
