Obituary

Lucille Cook passed away on April 21, 2025 at the age of 97.

Lucille Cook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and spiritual pillar, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at the age of 97 surrounded by family. Born on May 12, 1927, in Mayfield, Kentucky, to the late Vera and Luther Cook, Lucille was one of 12 children. Growing up on a farm, she developed a strong work ethic, deep faith, and a heart full of love—qualities that would guide her through a remarkable life. Lucille was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edwin Cook and children: Eddie Cook, Bennie Cook, Rita Cook, Sharon Cook, Dorothy Cook, and Miriam Johnson (Robert). She is survived by her children: Carlyn Young (Allan), Jannie Smith (Arnell), LaPellya Jones (late Buck), and Joseph Cook. She was also preceded in death by her grandchild Jannie Smith and is survived by her many other grandchildren: Lee Goley, Melissa Campbell (Jason), Fay Cantwell (Jim), Tasha Dane (Steve), Brandon Dane (Laura), Nathan Smith, Timothy Smith (Corrie), Crystal Smith (Charles), Josh Cook, Michelle Cook, April Parvin (Jake), and Jason Smith (Crystal). Her legacy continues through over 80 great-grandchildren—and growing.

Lucille was a lifelong servant of the Lord, known for her powerful preaching and beautiful singing. She spent nearly every Sunday in church, whether ministering, playing the organ, teaching Sunday school, or simply lifting others with her spirit. Lucille pastored many churches over the years and even owned one in Detroit, where she served faithfully. Her gift for preaching was so well known that churches would often invite her to deliver the message. She was a spiritual mentor to many and left a lasting imprint on every life she touched.

At home, Lucille was the heart of the household. She lovingly cared for her children—including those with special needs—until the age of 80, never once backing down from the challenges life brought her. Despite life's trials, she met every day with resilience and a smile, a strength rooted deeply in her unwavering faith in God. She was tough, loving, and always ready with a joke or a playful prank to keep everyone laughing.

She was known for her signature phrase, "I am blessed," and she truly lived that truth. Her love extended beyond her family. Lucille was famous for her chicken and rice, and no one ever left her home hungry. She adored her rose garden, had a sweet tooth for iced cappuccinos, and was lovingly known as "everyone's grandma."

She was a caregiver, a jokester, a nurturer, and a source of unshakable faith and warmth. Lucille Cook leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
