Obituary

Margaret Ellis Egan passed away on April 29th, 2020. She had lived most recently in Plymouth, Michigan and passed away at Angela Hospice of Livonia. Known also as Marg and Marge, she was 84 years old at passing. She was one tough lady who beat cancer four times. Ultimately, she ended up succumbing to the Covid-19 virus.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Charles J. Ellis and Jean A. (Robertson) Ellis. She leaves her loving daughters Lyn Presnal and Laurie Van Aartsen. She is survived by her five cherished grandchildren Megan (Van Aartsen) Gagne, Robert Van Aartsen, Astro Presnal, Tia Presnal and Zoe Presnal. She is also survived by her cousins, Margery Maurer and Nancy Hubbard who were very special to her.

Margaret was born in Dearborn, Michigan on February 21 st , 1936. She spent her childhood in Dearborn and then attended Albion Collage for a year to study journalism. Marge married Edward (Bud) Egan in 1957 and they had two daughters together. They were divorced shortly thereafter.  Fiercely independent, Marge raised her daughters as a single parent with the help of her mom and dad. She enjoyed a career as a banker and worked her way up from bank teller to management. Marge was very personable and enjoyed the camaraderie of all people.

Marge was proud of her Scottish heritage. She was an only child and was very close with her Mum and Dad. Family was always very important to her, and she kept the closeness across the generations by ensuring that we always had wonderful celebrations and holidays through great parties and get-to-gathers. She is famous for her chip dip and the best deviled eggs ever.

Marg enjoyed a wonderful, lifelong relationship with her "sister" friend Barb Antosik. They met in kindergarten and shared all of life's joys and sorrows. This is a loving friendship that so few have the honor to experience. Marg cherished the bond that still stands.

Marge loved her pets. Dogs, cats, and even a bird. Marge enjoyed and cared for many animals through her life. Each one was special to her. Even the ones she happily inherited from her daughters. If pets also go to heaven, she has a happy, tail-wagging group to meet her.

Being in the sun and enjoying summertime was Marge's favorite activity. She could often be found poolside. She maintained a beautiful, enviable tan year-round for her entire adult life. She was so delighted and grateful to have been able to spend eight years as a dual resident in Michigan and Clearwater, Florida after retiring. She enjoyed collecting and displaying her flamingo paraphernalia for all those who visited.  She is a true beach loving lady and we are sure that she is now collecting seashells in Heaven.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions around the Covid-19 virus, we are unable to have a traditional visitation, church service or funeral. Her daughters will attend a prayer offering at the graveside and we will extend the love of all those she has touched. We will have a family memorial celebration to honor her life when we are able to once again gather.
