Obituary

Margaret Ortega passed away on June 8, 2020 at 11:25 PM at the age of 87.  Margaret is predeceased by her sisters Rose Aguilar and Angela Aguilar and her brother Frank Aguilar.  Margaret is also predeceased by her loving husband Jose Hernandez Ortega of 26 years.  They were married at Most Holy Redeemer Parish on November 20, 1970.  Margaret is lovingly remembered by her sons Mario Ortega and his wife Ingrid Rushton of Ann Arbor, MI and Robert Ortega and his girlfriend Catherine Lee of Brooklyn, New York; her brother James Aguilar, her sister Mary Ann Untch and her husband Edmund Untch; her nephews James Aguilar Jr., Joseph Aguilar, Christopher Aguilar, and Brian Untch and her nieces Ginger Aguilar, Korena Blackmon, Tina Aguilar and Katrina Untch.

Margaret was born on December 11, 1932 and was a life-long resident of the City of Detroit.  She attended high school and later worked at Dunn Bindery, in downtown Detroit, as a book binder for many years.  She enjoyed various artistic hobbies including painting and coloring.  Margaret also enjoyed daily exercise classes with others including tai chi, Zumba and just taking walks.  She enjoyed greeting all the pets in the neighborhood, especially any dog, always having a treat for them.  She would enthusiastically greet and say hello to everyone on her daily walks or just as she went about her daily errands.

The visitation will be held at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home – Dearborn Chapel, 22546 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48124 on Sunday, June 14, 2020 from 2 PM until 7 PM.

The mass of Roman-Catholic burial will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48124 on June 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM.   Entombment for immediate family to follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery at 23755 Military Road, Dearborn Heights, MI 48127.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.  A donation will be made in Margaret's name to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle in Detroit, MI to ensure her love of flowers will continue forever.
