Marian E
Carbary
May 2, 1923 – January 10, 2025
Marian Esther Carbary, age 101, of Dearborn, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 10th at Sunrise of Northville surrounded by family.
Marian was born May 2nd 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Harry and Ethel (Snyder) Bredeweg. She loved academics and was the organ player for Epiphany's weekday masses while in school. Marian was caregiver to her mother who passed away from breast cancer during Marian's senior year of high school. Marian raised her younger brother Frank and cared for her father until going to work for Holly Carburetor in 1941. There she met Robert Carbary and they married in 1943. Their first daughter was born while Bob was in World War II. After the war, they settled in Dearborn, Michigan, and raised their 4 children there, Marian staying on in Dearborn after Bob passed in 1983. She was very active, and beloved at Sacred Heart Church, where she was in Tabernacle and Alter Society. Her life on Fort Dearborn St. was filled with friends supporting and cherishing each other as they raised their families. Hardly a month went by without a party or a card group, a coffee to welcome new neighbors, and send off others, a graduation or bridal and baby shower for everyone's children as they grew. She continued her gift of caregiving for family and friends throughout her life. Marian was known not only for her kindness, wisdom and generous spirit but also for her gift of gab! Marian loved being alive and had a gift for fostering special relationships with those she loved… Especially her 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
The joy she found in service to others, and in her faith, was exemplified by her roles as National Catholic Woman of the year in 1960 and the regional blood bank leader for the Michigan chapter of the Red Cross for decades. In 1988 she moved to Morley Manor in Dearborn, where she continued to volunteer, make new friends and thrive.
Marian is preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years Robert Carbary and her brother Reverend Frank Bredeweg. She is survived by her children, Sandra (Tom) Gallagher, Bill (Sue) Carbary, Joanne (Greg) Strzempek and Diane (Neal) Thurber.
Visitation will be held at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Dearborn, Michigan on January 15th from 9:00am - 10:30am with mass following at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church. Guests are invited to a luncheon immediately following at the parish hall.
