Marianne
Kostrewa
October 13, 1935 – February 14, 2022
Marianne Kostrewa passed away on February 14, 2022 at the age of 86. Mrs. Marianne Kostrewa (nee Hartmann) was born in Detroit on October 13, 1935, the second child of Kurt and Anna Hartmann's five children. She passed away on February 14th. After graduating from Visitation High School, Marianne worked for Cadillac Storage for a few years, then Essex Wire before taking a position in Purchasing at Chrysler Corp. in Highland Park, MI, from which she retired. She married Don Kostrewa on April 4, 1975. They lived in Dearborn for the 43 years of their marriage. Don passed away in 2018. Marianne lived at the Henry Ford Village the past several years (now known as Allegria). She and Don were very active members of Sacred Heart Parish for their entire married life. They were founding members of a prayer group and attended the weekly meetings for 40 years. Marianne and Don were known for their great generosity of time, treasure and talent. An example of their generosity was a major contribution to the founding of the Anna Memorial School in India in 2001. Their significant gift was why the school was named after Marianne's mother. Don and Marianne founded the St. Paul Charitable Trust, the nonprofit that supports the school to this day. The Anna Memorial School has more than 1200 students. Marianne was the head of the Sacred Heart Parish Altar Society, the volunteer group that cleaned the Church each week and she also washed and ironed the priests' albs. Family, Faith and Friends were the most important aspects of Marianne's life.
She is survived by her siblings, Helma (John) Schlaman, Fr. Richard and Paul (Betty) Hartmann. Nieces and nephews include John (Ellen) Schlaman, Doris (Dan) Anderson, Teri (David) Village, Kurt (Cindi) Hartmann, Suzanne (Mark) Mondak, Jim (Erin) Schlaman, Nathan (Jill), Jason (Liz), Caleb and Leanne (Sheraz Sadiq) Hartmann. Marianne is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Cheryl Ehrenfeld, Karen Gamache, Steven Kostrewa, and Diana Lehigh. She delighted in their visits and always offered her homemade cookies. Besides her parents, her older brother, Kurt and his wife, Jean, and nephew Duane Hartmann preceded her in death.
Arrangements have been made with Howe-Peterson Funeral Home with visitation from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 2/18/22 (22546 Michigan Ave., Dearborn). Scripture service on Friday at 7pm.
