Marilyn Patricia McBain, Age 97, born in Detroit Michigan, December 16, 1926, passed away peacefully in Dearborn Mi, September 10, 2024, following a long decline. The youngest offspring of William Baker and Hazel (O'Brien) Baker (deceased). Sister to Phillis (Herb Anderson), Howard and Hugh Baker, all predeceased. Married to beloved husband William (Bill) McBain for 70 years, (predeceased) . Beloved mother of Deborah (Kim Bruley), Keith (Beth), Gary (Kay), Craig (Carla), Leigh (Kelly). Inspiring and adored grandmother to Katherine Bruley (Chris Barber), Ryan, Ian (Emily), Michael (Nikki), Marissa (Tony Lacey), Erin (Gabe McBain), Megan, Lauren, Marilyn J. (Mo Williams) and Sarah. Great grandmother of Ellie and Maddie Barber, Noah Lacey, Theodore, Hudson, Oliver and Gillies McBain. Dear Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Fordson High School, Dearborn, Marilyn went to work doing several jobs including telephone operator, window dresser, office manager. Marilyn married Bill on August 13, 1949, at Martha-Mary Chapel, Greenfield Village, Dearborn. She then shifted her efforts to domestic engineer/goddess and mother. As the years progressed Marilyn and Bill raised five children. Marilyn was an active volunteer in her children's activities as room mother, girl scout leader, den mother and organizing school events. Marilyn had a creative vision which was expressed in multiple ways including painting, interior design, event organizing, at home and in the schools.
After Bill's retirement, his consulting work took him and his intrepid and ever-loving spouse, Marilyn to live in Australia, Germany, and Taiwan. These travels took them around the world and led to the production of a custom built 35 ft. sailing yacht built in New Zealand. They named the yacht Corroboree, an aboriginal term for "celebration of life". The yacht was shipped back to the states to sail the Great Lakes for nearly 30 years, creating irreplaceable memories and adventurous inspiration for family and friends.
Marilyn will be remembered for her unfailing optimism and kindness. Her gratefulness and graciousness made it a joy to be with her. Whether family, friend, caregiver or stranger, her sparkling eyes and smile could brighten anyone's day.
Visitation at the Dearborn Location of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Friday, September 13, 1:00-5:00 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m.
