Obituary

Martin Francis Murphy (94), of Aildavour, Connolly, Ennis, Co. Clare Ireland passed away from natural causes on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Martin, fondly known as Marty, was born to Stephen Thomas and Elizabeth Murphy in Ireland on October 10, 1929. He was number two out of three children: Michael Joe and JJ Murphy. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful wife, Marjorie (Margie) Murphy. Martin and Marjorie were married on September 7, 1957, in Dearborn, Michigan, they were married for 63 years when Margie passed away on February 2nd, 2021.

Marty grew up on a farm in Ireland, in a town called Connolly,. With a heavy heart he left his home of Ireland at a very young age and moved to the United States. When he arrived in the states he stayed with his uncle in Detroit after helping his uncle, he decided to join the Army. Marty enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1951, he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He would always talk about his job of driving generals around. He was very proud and loved his time in the service, he would tell stories about all the great people he met, Marty was honorably discharged in 1957.

After his time in the service, he met his future bride. They would spend time dancing at the Gaelic League in Detroit and also enjoyed playing cards with their friends. Marty worked for the food service industry and he also helped drive a truck delivering motors to Ford Motor Company and other local businesses. Again, he loved delivering the motors for Commonwealth Service Sales because he was able to talk to people. On the weekends when his children were young, he would take the family to the cottage his father-in-law built in Lexington, Michigan. It is here where many fond memories were created. In Lexington, he would fish, walk to town, spend time with family and relax. He loved his family, fishing, baseball, hockey, ushering at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, his two cats Shopan and Randy, and friends. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch and hanging out in his backyard. Dad also had a garden every year. He loved planting cucumbers, tomatoes, and Rhubarb.

Marty loved his time volunteering for PEAC's Celebration of Cycling annual bike ride. He would make sandwiches for the riders at the Whitmore Lake Church stop. He also enjoyed walking to the local park. He enjoyed his walks because he would be able to meet his friends and start chatting.

Marty is survived by his two children Kevin (Sandra) Murphy and Deborah (John) Waterman; his grandchildren Ashton Murphy, Falynne Murphy, and Conor Waterman. He is survived by his two brothers Michael Joe Murphy and JJ Murphy. He is also survived by his many nieces: Mary, Eilis, Siobhan, Angela, Mary, Annie, Claire, and Catherine and nephews: Michael, Stephen, Seamus, Sean, Martin, Paul, and Liam. He is also survived by so many grandnieces and nephews that he loved very much!
