Obituary

Mary Susan "Sue" Clippert LaMont, 94, of Novi Michigan, passed away on Mother's Day, May 9, 2021 surrounded by loved ones and her guard cat "Ronnie".

Sue was born in Detroit, Michigan to George and Helen (Nelson) Nankervis on December 31, 1926.  She was an only child and loved to read and visit their second home in Port Sanilac, Michigan. Sue graduated from Kingswood High School, Bloomfield, MI. She continued her love for fashion and studied Retail Merchandising at Connecticut College for Women where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. Returning home to Detroit, Mary Susan married a childhood neighbor, John Reuss Clippert. They had three sons, George, James and Geoffrey, they shared 52 years of marriage.  They spent some of their vacation time with the Clippert family at Pointe aux Barques, MI and most of their weekends at their lake home in Gaylord, Michigan. They enjoyed skiing, boating and golfing with their family and friends. Sue and John traveled the world to include Borubudor to Bali, Straits of Magellan to Marrakech, Islands of Palau to the Tower of Pisa, London, Paris, Rome and Venice, Nice, Japan, Taiwan and China, Kathmandu, Casablanca, Nairobi, and a very memorable trip with her son Geof from Guam to Saipan, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Sue's favorite trip was an African Safari where she saw her beloved elephants.

Sue volunteered at the Detroit Franklin School in what was a precursor to the now Head Start Program. She earned her M.Ed. from University of Michigan. She worked as a counselor for disabled children at the League-Goodwill in downtown Detroit. She always had a love of music and the arts and supported and volunteered at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Dearborn and Detroit MI and Charleston SC symphonies. She was President of the 400 member Dearborn Symphony Orchestra Women's Association for 2 years.

She had over 20 happy years at Seabrook Island, SC where she had many friends and loved walking the beach with her dog Grady, golfing and enjoyed a bit of tennis.  She volunteered as a literacy tutor at John's Island Elementary and High Schools. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Respite program at Christ Episcopal Church John's Island, SC.

When her husband John passed away in 2001, Sue married the late Dr. Richard LaMont, a long-time family friend. They relocated to Fox Run in Novi, MI and enjoyed each other and their "together" families for 10 years. She lived at Fox Run for 15 years and enjoyed volunteering at the Treasure Chest, utilizing her retail background and held the position of Treasurer for several years. Sue loved serving, socializing and above all, family.

She is survived by son Geoffrey John Clippert (Katheryne), daughters-in-law Sandy Clippert, and Sherry Clippert-DeVogel, her grandchildren Christopher James Clippert (Kara), George Harrison Clippert III (Julie), Jonathan Robert Clippert (Cassandra), Drew James Clippert, and Paige Mary-Katheryne Clippert and many great grandchildren.  From her second marriage, she is survived by her "bonus" daughters, Cathy LaMont (Michael Donovan), Suzy Dempewolf (Jerry), Beth Frey (Eric), Anne LaMont (Barry Chatzinoff), and Ginny LaMont Naegeli (Christopher) and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband John Reuss Clippert, her second husband Dr. Richard LaMont, and her two sons George Harrison Clippert II (Sherry Clippert-DeVogel) and James Nelson Clippert (Sandy).
