Mary McNeely Taylor
March 31, 1922-September27, 2020
Mary graduated into Heaven at 04:18 early Sunday morning, September 27, 2020, age 98.5.
Beloved wife of the late John (Pat) P. McNeely, Sr., and of the late John E. Taylor. Loving Mother of Kay (Robert) Leary, Mo McNeely Fritz (Bob Long), John McNeely (Kathy Wells), Michael McNeely. Dearest Grandmother of the late Tami McLaughlin, Tania (Brian) Bengtsson, the late Brian (Kari) Harrant, Greg (Angie) Harrant. Proud Great Grandmother of Reese, Sloan and Vieve Bengtson, Alexander, Anna, Madeline, Mitchell and Mia Harrant. Sister-in-Law Shirley McNeely and many nieces and nephews along with many friends and her extended family at Henry Ford Village will certainly miss her presence.
In her early years, Mary worked for 8 yrs. as a book keeper for Ajax Steel Co. in Detroit before she married Pat. She supported Pat's 12-year career in the U.S. Army as she helped to raise their four children. Family was extremely important to Mary. After Pat passed, Mary moved to Henry Ford Village (HFV) in Dearborn, MI and lived there for the last 22 years. At the Village, Mary became a welcoming resident and an active and loving member of the HFV family. It was there that she met John Taylor while traveling with the Village Travelers Group, and later they were married when Mary was 80 years old! She enjoyed a loving relationship with John's son Rick, wife Martha and their three daughters: Maria, Annika and Jerusha.
Mary was a world-wide traveler and loved to visit interesting places. When she was home, she loved to crochet keepsake items like baby blocks and lap robes.
Mary was a cheerful, compassionate neighbor to so many. She was well known for her baking skills, and specialized in "Grandma cookies" and poppy seed cakes. Many of us will miss those delicious treats.
She helped to organize the Goodfellow Doll Program at HFV for many years, as she collected donations and sewed many wedding dresses for the dolls through the years.
Mary was a devout Catholic Lady who pursued her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her entire life. She was an active member and lector with the St. Clement HFV Chapel.
After Mary's funeral services are completed, her remains will be cremated and interred with Pat and John in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit at a later date.
