Mary Delphine Wonnacott (née Taylor), a longtime resident of Taylor, Michigan, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life rich in love, laughter, and lasting memories.
She began her working years as a secretary at Cadillac, where her strong work ethic first took root. She later dedicated more than 30 years to Taylor Public Schools, becoming a familiar and trusted presence whose kindness and dependability touched many.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—tending to her garden, where her yard became a point of pride and admiration, and spending time outdoors. Never one to shy away from something new, she took up golf later in life and played well into her 80s, embracing each round with enthusiasm and determination.
She loved gathering with family and friends, whether around a card table, at the bowling alley, or on camping trips filled with laughter. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, visiting most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as journeys abroad to England, Scotland, and Italy—experiences she treasured deeply.
Above all, she was the heart of her family. A devoted grandmother, she took great joy in being present in her granddaughters’ lives, celebrating their milestones and creating cherished traditions. Her love extended to the next generation as a proud great-grandmother.
She was the beloved wife of the late William; dear mother of Paul and Nancy (Tim) Gassman; cherished grandmother of Leah, Megan, Katy (Calvin), and Autumn; and loving great-grandmother of Maddox and Eleanor.
Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, May 16th at 10:00AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00AM at the Taylor Location Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, located at 9800 Telegraph Road, Taylor MI, 48180.
