Maureen Ann Strachan

Maureen Ann (Cronin) Strachan, 71, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, with her son and daughter by her side holding her hand.

Maureen was born on July 24, 1955, in Great Lakes, Illinois, to Charles W. Cronin Jr. and Priscilla R. (Cassidy) Cronin.

Maureen worked for the State of Michigan for 45 years before retiring. Throughout her life, she was known for her strength, kindness, sense of humor, and the way she genuinely cared about the people around her. She was someone people could talk to, count on for advice and encouragement, laugh with, and lean on when they needed it. She had a way of making people feel supported and cared for, and family was always at the center of her life.

She loved football, camping, cooking and baking, reading, crafts, murder mysteries, home-improvement shows, trivia and quiz shows like Jeopardy!, and watching favorites like Judge Judy and Project Runway. She especially loved the holidays, family gatherings, and all of the traditions that came along with them. Some of her happiest times were simply having everyone together.

Being a mom and grandma meant everything to Maureen. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Colin and Isabel, whether they were doing crafts and puzzles, playing board games, laughing together, or simply hanging out. She was incredibly proud of her family and was always one of their biggest supporters.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Lee” Strachan; her parents, Charles W. Cronin Jr. and Priscilla R. (Cassidy) Cronin; and her brother, Thomas “Tommy” Cronin. There is comfort in knowing that after so many years apart, Maureen and Lee are together again.

She is survived by her children, Jason Strachan and Casey Strachan; her grandchildren, Colin Strachan and Isabel Strachan; and her sisters, Kelly (Steve) Weingrot, Shawn (Jim) Krolikowski, Erin Hammel, and Kathy Cronin and her wife, Candace Rabe. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Inurnment will be held for Maureen and her husband Lee  on Wednesday September 23rd, 1:00pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI 48442 with military honors being held for Lee.

A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held at a later date, where her family and friends can come together to share memories, tell stories, and celebrate her life.
