Mel
Overwater
September 23, 1948 – August 6, 2020
Mel Overwater was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed on August 6, 2020, at work serving his community. He is loved and already deeply missed by his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Overwater; his children, Ken Overwater, Theresa Ferrari, Lisa Overwater and Marie Overwater; his children-in-law, Sara Overwater and Michael Ferrari, his grandchildren, Owen Ferrari, Chloe Ferrari, Nick Schropp and Eleanor Overwater; his siblings, Mike Overwater and Peggy Stadelman; and by loving friends and colleagues too numerous to recount. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Adriana Overwater. He was born September 23, 1948 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, a heritage of which he was fiercely proud. His family immigrated to the United States in 1957. He worked and lived in Dearborn for over 40 years; primarily at the Ford Rouge Complex where he worked in skilled trades as a mechanic and machinist. He also served his community as Reserve Officer in the Dearborn Police Department, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. In retirement, he continued serving as a city inspector for the City of Dearborn. He loved tinkering and fixing things. He could operate anything with an engine, whether on land, sea, or sky, but he particularly loved his boat and his motorcycle. His happiest moments, however, were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, who will forever miss him and love him. Funeral mass will be Thursday 12:30 p.m. at the Church of the Divine Child, 1055 N. Silvery Lane, Dearborn Michigan, 48128. Gathering at church Thursday from 11:30 a.m. Live streaming of the mass available and supported by Divine Child Catholic Church: https://youtu.be/9ZolQQ5lKos. Please leave an online condolence to comfort the family.
