Michael Jay Fontaine (1950 – 2023)

Loving husband, father, grandpa (pop pop), brother, and friend, Michael Jay Fontaine of Dearborn, Michigan passed on August 25, 2023, at the age of 73 after a courageous 19 month fight with pancreatic cancer.  Michael is survived by his wife Sandy, children Jim (Jamie), Dave (Jackie), Jay (Katie), Kim (Scott), and Matt.  He was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Christian, Kaitlyn, Keira, Addison, Cullen, Dean, Frank, Cal, and Anna.

Michael was born in 1950 to Ted and Mary who were amazed by his mechanical abilities starting at a young age.  He seemed to know how things worked without any instruction or training and was always quick to build and fix things on his own.  This gift would become a cornerstone of his being, as he enjoyed cars, wood working and home improvement throughout his life.  He was eager to help anyone who needed a hand with projects and was the guy that people called when they didn't know how to do something. He was also a self-taught guitarist who enjoyed playing for himself and those closest to him. With a passion for high-end audio equipment and a vast collection of songs, music was what he enjoyed when he wanted to relax.

Michael had an exciting career as an Engineering Technologist specializing in engine development and integration.  He retired in 2007 after 29 years at Ford Motor Company.

Following retirement, he loved working on his guitars, taking road trips with his wife Sandy, visiting family in Michigan and in Massachusetts, and watching his grandchildren play sports.

His spirit will live on through those who have known his gifts, his love, and his laughter.
