Obituary

Michael Lane Yurko Glover, born January 3, 1943, in Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away leaving behind a legacy of intelligence, kindness, and deep devotion to family and community. She was the beloved daughter of Dr. Leonard E. Yurko and Charlotte M. Yurko.

In her early years, Michael was raised in Follansbee, West Virginia, where she lived with her mother and maternal grandparents while her father served in the war. She later moved to Weirton, West Virginia, where she attended local schools and quickly distinguished herself as an exceptional student. Known for her sharp mind, warm spirit, and genuine kindness, she was admired by both classmates and teachers. In high school, she achieved the honor of valedictorian, a testament to her dedication and brilliance.

At a time when few women pursued careers in mathematics, Michael excelled in the field she loved. She earned degrees in Mathematics and English from West Virginia University and went on to obtain her master's degree in mathematics from The University of Michigan and secured a teaching position in their Mathematics department, inspiring students with her passion for learning and her remarkable intellect.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Michael's greatest pride and joy was her family. She lovingly raised five children and was a devoted grandmother to twelve grandchildren, all of whom affectionately called her "Nana." Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

Michael also had a lifelong love of animals, especially horses and dogs, and cared for many throughout her life. Her compassion extended into every aspect of her world, reflecting her generous and nurturing spirit.

Deeply committed to her faith and community, Michael gave freely of her time and energy. She played an active role in her church, helping coordinate Vacation Bible School, assisting with the annual rummage sale, and contributing to the holiday greens market. Her quiet service touched many lives and strengthened the community she cherished.

She is survived by her five children:  Jeff (Annette), Eann, Steven (Jennifer), Jill (Aaron), Greg (Lisa); twelve grandchildren; sister: Letha; brothers: Paul and James; many nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Michael's life was one of purpose, love, and grace. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
