Michael Gerard
Ossy
December 19, 1960 – July 16, 2023
Michael died on July 16 after bravely battling cancer since 2019. He was a true testament to LIVING with a terminal illness. Cancer, may have been the only thing that never controlled him in his life. He lived everyday actively until his death. The terminal cancer allowed him the opportunity to embrace life. Michael proudly retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan after 36 years of service. A short time after his retirement, he began working at what he believed was the best job he ever had, at Howe Peterson Funeral Home. Michael had the gift to befriend anyone from any walk of life, saying he could drink tea with the seniors and rock with the rockers.
Everyone who knew him had a "Mike Ossy story". He loved golfing, gardening and spending time with his beloved animals. In the months preceding his death he devoted a lot of time to what he referred to as "Making good with God" attending early morning daily mass, regular visits to the Capuchin Monastery, attending weekly Mother of Perpetual Help novena, a devotion to praying for the Holy Souls in purgatory, to St. Theresa the Little Flower, and of course his beloved Blessed Solanus Casey. Mike is survived by his devoted wife Sherry, loving son Michael, brother Paul, sister-in-law Marilyn, niece Elizabeth, great niece and nephew Emma and JT, family pets Annabelle and Natasha and his cat Simon. Additionally, the many family, friends and neighbors who helped Mike embrace life especially on his cancer journey. Michael was predeceased by his parents Louis and Rita Ossy brother Tom and sister Elizabeth. A very special thank you to Father John and Brother Joe who our Lord placed in Mike's life just when he needed them most, all the faith community at Divine Child Catholic Church, and the tremendously caring staff at Angela Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Fr. Solanus Casey Center or Friends of Animals of Metro Detroit
