Naomi Bratcher Underhill, 85 years old, passed away peacefully at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 3, 2016 at 3:58pm with her 3 children by her side. She was under the care of Hospice.
Born on February 1st, 1931 in Smithville, TN, her parents were Alvie Harding Bratcher and Minnie Amy Harmon, her siblings were 3 brothers: JP, Alvie Jr. and Bill, and 3 sisters: Clara Mae, Sybal and Elsie Bratcher.
Married to the late Dixie Underhill for 66 years, married on February 11, 1950.
Naomi worked for the shirt factory for a few years before going to Alaska to be with her husband, who was in the Army from 1952 to 1955. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in the fall of 1955 for her husband, Dixie, to work at Cadillac Motor Car Division. They retired to McMinnville, Tennessee in 1987 after 30 years.
She is survived by her 3 children; 1 daughter, Cathy and husband Gregory Digue of Jackson, Michigan, 2 sons, Kelvin and wife Nancy Underhill of Ortonville, Michigan and Glenn and wife Kimberly Underhill of Taylor, Michigan. Naomi has 4 grandchildren; Shanna Moricz, Clay Digue, and Kyle Underhill, all of Michigan, and Blake Digue of Kentucky as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Drake, Devin and Drew Moricz, Mackenzie, Matthew, Kaelyn, and Sean Digue and Levi Underhill. She has 1 brother-in-law, Beecher and wife, Jeannette Underhill of Good Hope, Georgia. She also has 2 sister-in-laws, Gracie Bratcher of Smithville and Allyson R. Underhill of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceded in death by her parents, Alvie Harding Bratcher and Minnie Amy Harmon, her brothers, JP, Alvie Jr. and Bill Bratcher, and her sisters, Clara Mae Armour, Sybal Lawson and Elsie Campbell.
She will lay in repose on Saturday, November 5, 2016, 2:00pm-8:00pm at the Taylor Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph Road and then at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, 100 E. Church Street, Smithville, TN, on Monday, November 7th, Visitation 10:00am-2:00pm with the Funeral Service at 2:00pm. Burial at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville, TN. Conducting the Funeral Services will be Brother Hardlen Simmons and Brother Carl Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Banks Cemetery, 2986 Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville, TN 37166 and the Madison Street Baptist Church, 100 E. Church St., McMinnville, TN 37110, or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
