Nellie Louise
Vroman
September 26, 1928 – October 20, 2022
Nellie Louise Vroman, age 94, of Garden City, peacefully departed this world to rejoin her husband, Bob, on October 20th surrounded by family after a long and loving life. Nellie was best known for her generous heart and caring personality, her beautiful crochet, her love of wildlife, her ability to spot deer better than everyone else, and her vicious euchre, cribbage and pinochle playing. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with Bob, her husband of 69 years. Before his passing in 2018, it was rare to find a time when Nellie & Bob weren't together.
During a snowstorm in the early 1960's, Nellie and Bob took a risk by purchasing, sight unseen, a small cabin, which grew to be a second home to our entire family. When Nellie wasn't Up North, she traveled to see the beautiful nature of the US. Many other family and friends were also blessed to travel with her (and Bob) to places like California, Alaska, Arizona, Wyoming, Wisconsin and Florida. Nellie mixed her love of travel with her competitive spirit. She bowled in a number of tournaments that took her across the US for competition and continued bowling until she was 87 years old and suffered a broken arm. Nellie won many local awards for bowling high games, best high average and others. Despite her small stature, she was fiercely competitive.
However, what made Nellie happiest was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. She delighted in having company over and playing cards. Her kindness and love were apparent as soon as you met her. More than just our family considered her to be their Grandma too.
Nellie is survived by her large and adoring family - her brother, Jerry (Pam) Petre; her children Cynthia, and Bobby; grandchildren Sandra (Jonathon), Dawn (David), Brandy (Jimmy), Kyle (Tiffany), Krystal (Jamie), Ashley (Benjamin), Katielyn (Evan) and Christina, and great-grandchildren Capra, Indyra, Megan, Owen, Bodhi, Cassidy, Haley, Jacob, Elliott, Tyler, Penelope, Phineas, Caleb, Lyle, Kimber, Saylor, and Kampbell; long time neighbor Bobby (Gina) Gnida, son-in-law, Gary, and sister, Barbara. Nellie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert, her beloved children Victoria, Christopher (Jeanne), and Daniel (Deborah); dear sister Eleanor and brothers Jim and Bob, and parents James & Hazel.
Services for Nellie will be held privately.
